Virus outbreak at Musgrove

VISITING restrictions are in place at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug Norovirus.

A spokesman said: "Since the beginning of January 2012, there have been outbreaks of the winter vomiting bug, Norovirus across the hospital and we currently have several wards closed to new admissions.

"We know that Norovirus is still present in the wider community and to help us to contain and reduce the levels of Norovirus in the hospital we have taken the decision to stop visiting on all wards.

"We aim for this to be a short term measure and we will review the situation on a daily basis.

"We realise that stopping visiting will be difficult for our patients as well as their family and friends but it is important that we keep our patients as safe as possible during their stay at the hospital as contracting Norovirus can have serious implications for patients who are already unwell.

"These restrictions do not apply to the children's and maternity wards."
