Bishops Lydeard ladies beat Swindon
4:50pm Thursday 2nd September 2010
South West Women’s League Division 1 East Bishops Lydeard 2, Swindon Spitfires 1 AFTER a poor performance away to Salisbury City last week, Bishops Lydeard Ladies were back to winning ways.
With the return of several key players, Lydeard were almost back to full strength and started the game brightly with Tash Stephens and Natalie Poole, both aged just 16, exploiting space behind the Swindon defence.
Lydeard’s break came in the eighth minute when Holly Miller played a well-weighted ball through for 16-year-old Rosie Harper who tapped the ball past the outrushing keeper with her left foot.
Swindon hit back against the run of play but the young Lydeard side responded well and Holly Miller saw her 25-yard strike rattle the crossbar.
Holly didn’t have to wait long to get on the score sheet, however, in the 44th minute she picked the ball up on the half way line and drove through the whole Swindon side and smashed the ball into the back of the net for what turned out to be the winner.
l Bishops Lydeard run two ladies’ sides and are looking for new players to join, including a goalkeeper. The club also run girls’ teams in the Somerset Girls league and are looking for players aged eight+. Anyone interested should contact Julie Bowker on 07813158316.
