CRICKET: Somerset appoint new development manager

SOMERSET Cricket Board have announced the appointment of Andy Fairbairn as their new Cricket Development Manager.

He is expected to take up his role at the County Ground before the end of March.

The 29-year-old was brought up from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk before graduating from Exeter University in Business and Management.

The newly appointed CDM currently works as a Cricket Development Officer at the Devon Cricket Centre in Exeter.

He has a wealth of qualifications and experience in youth cricket, using his ECB Level 3 Coach award as a County Age Group Coach as well as working with the Exeter University squad.

His club playing experience has largely been at Bovey Tracey CC.

Somerset Cricket Board Chairman Andy Curtis said: “We had more than 60 applicants for this post.

“Having interviewed a shortlist of four good candidates we were won over by Andy's enthusiasm and vision for recreational cricket.

“We are confident that he will provide fresh impetus to the Board's work in developing Somerset club cricket generally.

“He has an excellent range of business and managerial skills allied to a solid cricketing background.

“Following John Wilford's unfortunate and unexpected departure in December we have been stretched to fulfil a busy programme, but we are fortunate to have a dedicated team that has met all of our commitments in what have been fairly trying circumstances.

“Andy's undoubted energy and familiarity with the local cricket scene will enable him to hit the ground running, which will be warmly welcomed by SCB staff and volunteers alike.”
